Received 9:29 a.m., Tuesday August 5

I know this is very late but I wanted to give you the update - Damascus came up one run short tonight against Florida. The score was tied 2-2 going to the bottom of the 7th inning, Florida staged a two-out rally and scored the 3rd and winning run in the bottom of the last frame. As you can imagine everyone here wanted the win and is disappointed with the outcome but when you look at the big picture they have nothing at all to be ashamed of and everything in the world to be proud of.

As you can imagine there were a lot of tears after the game as this is such a competitive group of girls. I have been with them through many happy times and unfortunately tonight did not end the way we wanted to but as one parent who has spent countless hours with this group over the last several years I can honestly say that I would be proud to go to war with them anytime anywhere.

At this point we are planning to depart Fort Myers Wednesday morning and should arrive back in Damascus sometime after midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Please let everyone in Damascus know how much this team appreciates everything that has been done for them and realizes without their help we could not have made it this far. We look forward to seeing everyone back home later this week.

Thanks
Jeff Fritz,
League President

Received 9:14 p.m., Sunday August 3:

The Damascus Girls enjoyed the day off today by going to the beach this afternoon and having a group dinner.

We take the field at 7:30 pm on Monday night against the representative from Florida. The Florida team lost today to the same North Carolina team we played on Saturday. If Damascus wins on Monday night we will advance into the semi-finals on Tuesday, if we should lose we will be heading out early Tuesday morning back home but no one on this end is looking for that.

Tell everyone in Damascus to offer up a prayer for us about 7:30 pm on Monday and hopefully my next report will be one of good news for the girls in black.

Received 2:45 p.m., Saturday August 2:

The Damascus Girls faced a minor set-back this morning; Damascus played a very good team from North Carolina and eventually fell to their neighboring competitors 3-0. Damascus never seemed able to get their bats going in the game. Morgan Lowe pitched for Damascus and had good command throughout the game.

A couple of errors early hurt Damascus. The girls were disappointed with the loss but realize this is a long tournament and they are still alive. Damascus will next play the State Representative from Florida on Monday night at 7:30 pm after a day off on Sunday. The team is planning to relax on Sunday and hopefully be ready for their game on Monday night.

I will submit an update on Sunday evening as to the activities of the day for the girls.

Received 9:11 p.m., Friday August 1:

We just returned from the opening ceremonies for the tournament which included a very nice Italian dinner and a wonderful fireworks show. Each team was introduced onto the field tonight. The “folks” from Damascus seemed to be as pumped up as anyone. The player’s have returned to the motel and have a 10pm curfew, they will be up early in the morning and have breakfast and then depart for the field at 9:30 am and play begins at 11:00 am. That’s it for now; hopefully our next update will have information about a Damascus victory!

Received 4:00 p.m, Friday August 1;

The Damascus Girls just returned from a light workout at the facility which they will be playing at this weekend.

Everyone looked really sharp during the walk-through practice. The facilities are out of this world! Tonight all of the teams involved in the tournament will meet together for a kickoff welcome dinner. The excitement level from the girls and everyone else with the Damascus party is great. I will provide another update after tonight’s events.

Received 10:20 p.m., Thursday July 31:

Good evening, the girls and their parents all arrived safely in Fort Myers tonight about 7pm.It was a long 19 hour trip from Damascus. The trip went well other than a minor problem with the bus in Orlando, a belt on the bus became loose and we had to stop and do some mechanic work to get going but thanks to some of our parents who are mechanically inclined- they jumped right in and helped the driver get the problem resolved and we were back on our way in about an hour.

Everyone is very tired and ready for a good nights sleep. The plans for Friday is for the team to practice sometime in the early afternoon. After that the girls and their parents will attend a kickoff celebration at 7:00pm Friday night.

The weather is very hot- the girls are pumped and ready for their first game on Saturday at 11:00am vs. the State Champion from North Carolinia. I will send you an update Friday night as to how the day goes on Friday.

Thanks
Jeff Fritz
League President
